Bidon Bistro
Set within the iconic Cradle of Mankind just outside of Johannesburg, Bidon Bistro is a roadside country restaurant that will take you on a culinary adventure that will captivate all of your senses. “Bidon” which means bicycle water bottle in French, is geared for the cycling crowd, with bike parking, a bike wash service and secure vehicle parking making it the perfect venue to park and start your cycle in The Cradle area. Afterwards come and enjoy the amazing vistas, fresh Country air, friendly service and food that is classy, elegant and packed full of flavour.
Bidon Bistro is located on the grounds of one of the oldest farms in the Muldersdrift Area, Jexter Farm. Jexter Farm has been in the Mes family for over 40 years, and has seen all types of activities taking place over the years. From farming to Futon Bed manufacturing and a host of others in between. As The Cradle of Humankind grew in popularity as a cycling destination, the owners saw the opportunity to build a restaurant to cater for visiting cyclists and locals alike.
The old pigsty was converted into the men’s and ladies restrooms, our trusty handyman-come-vehicle-security-guard Charlie’s house was converted into the current cycle-through. Everyone who worked, lived or visited the farm was roped into setting up what would become the iconic Bidon Bistro that is frequented and loved by so many loyal friends.
Tips: Look out for the Secondhand bike sale which happens every Saturday from 8-10am at the venue.
