Suurbraak Mountain Bike Trails
‘Xairu’, the original San name for Suurbraak, means beautiful or paradise, so it’s not surprising that Suurbraak is the perfect place to explore on your mountain bike.
There are two scenic trails that run through the historic Xairu community, created by the people responisble fantastic trails at Grootvadersbosch Conservancy. The trails start and end at the Tourism Info office at the old Mission Church – 1 Rossouwplein Street.
The 8km green route runs along the mountain side of Suurbraak and the 17km blue route winds through the town of Suurbraak before entering the surrounding farms. The terrain consists of jeep track and urban single track with some steep Fence Bridges and a fair amount of climbing per kilometer (elevation 300 and 500m). The trails are adventure-style, not manicured and super clean and in some areas the sheep trails might look like mtb trails! So it’s worth downloading the GPS Trail Maps. Keep a look out for some of the unique species of fauna that find their home in Suurbraak Renosterveld.
PERMITS:
Available from the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy, Selected Guest Houses, Paradise Organic Restaurant in Suurbraak (only 600m from where the trails start).
R30 for a day permit, R350 a year for a Grootvadersbosch Conservancy permit, which includes all the trails at Suurbraak and Grootvadersbosch Conservancy.
