Learn to Cycle with Lebogang Mokwena

In partnership with Open Streets Cape Town and Pedal Power Association, Capetonians finally have an opportunity to learn how to ride a bicycle safely and confidently. With a mission to increase and diversify Cape Town’s cycling community, the Learn2Cycle initiative is modeled on Bike New York’s Learn-2-Ride bicycle education programme.

During this 2-hour lesson, participants will learn how to balance, steer, and pedal a bike.

What to bring? A fun, enthusiastic attitude and some water to drink. Bicycles and helmets will be provided.

What to wear? Comfortable, stretchy pants (like gym tights) for ease of movement and closed shoes like tekkies.

Organizer of Learn2Cycle

I learned how to a ride a bicycle when I was 30 years old and so have a real understanding of how hard it can be to try acquire this life skill years after one’s childhood. It is for this reason (and for the sheer and unadulterated love of all things bike) that I have volunteered to teach adults how to ride bicycles in New York City and in Cape Town. As my preferred mode of transportation, you will often see me on my red steed, wearing a bright green helmet, cruising through the streets of Cape Town – sometimes on my own and many other times with an ever-growing gang of legendary cyclists.

  1. Highly recommend. A great place to learn

I loved learning to cycle with other. Lebo is so knowledgeable and kind in her approach.

  2. I had my first-ever bike riding lesson

I had my first-ever bike riding lesson with Loyiso last Saturday, and I can’t express enough how transformative the experience was for me. As someone who had never been able to ride a bike before, the idea of gliding on two wheels seemed like an unattainable dream. However, Loyiso made it possible in just one lesson. Thank you for this life-changing opportunity!
