Kruger National Park

OLIFANTS CAMP & MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Where nearly 2 million hectares of unrivalled diversity of life forms fuses with historical and archaeological sights – this is real Africa.

MOUNTIAN BIKING KRUGER

What could be more thrilling than getting up close and personal with Kruger’s wildlife on a mountain bike? The trail starts at Olifants Rest Camp (currently the only camp offering this activity) where you’ll be supplied with mountain bikes, backpacks, water bottles, bicycle helmets, snacks and juice. Participants are taken to the start of the trail in an open game viewing vehicle, with a bike trailer carrying the bikes behind the vehicle. Then you’ll set off for a three to four hour ride through the bush; the trail runs in the morning and afternoon. What makes it so special is that you’ll be accompanied by two knowledgeable and armed field guides – it’s Big Five country, after all.

Take note that a maximum of six riders are allowed, and no under-16s. Rates start from R680 per person, full-day trails are also available. Book your spot on the mountain bike trails either through central reservations or Olifants Camp (013) 735 6606/7. Or visit SAN Parks website for more info.

Should participants want to utilise their own personal Mountain Bikes, they are welcome to do so. The participants must then remember to take their own equipment i.e. puncture repair kits, tools, spares, tubes etc.

OLIFANTS ACCOMMODATION

Olifants camp is situated a top a hill which towers several hundred feet over the Olifants river. Views from the lookout platforms allow one to see the river below, just as a soaring eagle would survey it, as it hunts from the skies.

Comfortable accommodation is provided in bungalows with en-suite bathrooms, kitchenettes and air-conditioning. Relax in the comfort of your bungalow and discover the wildlife in this pristine area ranging from scavenging baboons, playful vervet monkeys and fruit bats. Facilities at Olifants include shop, restaurant, laundromat and filling station.
