Karkloof MTB Trails & Events
Situated in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, just over an hour from Durban and 5 hours from Johannesburg, Karkloof is known as one of the top mountain biking destinations in South Africa.
Sappi’s wide-spread plantations, coupled with the vision and dedication of passionate local mountain biking enthusiasts has resulted in a world-class trail network which is now accessible year round to recreational riders. The popular Karkloof MTB trails offer riding for varying degrees of ability in 10km, 20km and 30km loops. All the routes start and finish at the Karkloof Country Club and are graded in accordance with IMBA’s guidelines. Each section of trail within the routes has a unique name. Riders can access the trails either by paying for a day indemnity form at the Karkloof Country Club for R 50.00 (Adult) or R25.00 (Junior U18) or alternatively, if you plan to ride these trails frequently (which we bet you will!) it makes sense to become a Karkloof Country Club member.
Add to this the facilities offered at the Karkloof Country Club, including safe parking, hot showers and a place to wash your bike and you have everything you need to enjoy a mind blowing mountain biking experience!
If you are visiting the area for a weekend and need a place to stay, no need to worry! The Karkloof is located in the heart of the Midlands Meander, meaning that there is a variety of accommodation options available to suit all budgets.
Karkloof MTB Events
The trails are home to the Sappi Karkloof Classic Trail Festival, SA’s largest, best and longest running MTB festival now including trail running.
Also on the calendar is the Sappi Karkloof Trail Blazer, is a no fuss event that is all about riding the superb trails of the Karkloof Valley with as little admin as possible. No timing, no race packs, no prize giving, just good quality single track riding in the 40km, and forestry roads in the 20km event. There is a coffee shop as well as showers at the venue so come and join us for a fun day out.
