Café Pavé @ Camberley Wine Estate

BREAKFASTS, BURGERS AND BIKES.

We are a family owned cycling oriented café.

Nicole and Mark Nel moved back to the family farm in 2014, the beautiful Camberley Wines Estate in Hellshoogte Pass, Stellenbosch.

When the opportunity to take over the running of the onsite coffee shop occurred, they decided to take the plunge in August 2016. A far cry from Nicole’s civil engineering career path but with key input from Mark’s parents: Gael (talented cook) and Johnny (winemaker extraordinaire), a beautiful setting, a love of cycling, coffee and food, it is a journey they are thoroughly enjoying.

Being keen cyclists, Nicole and Mark saw the need for cycling friendly stopovers in and around Stellenbosch. With the Hellshoogte Pass being a popular training ground for road cyclists and the numerous trails currently under development in the Banhoek area, the need to fulfill the cycling coffee culture was one of the driving factors behind taking over Café Pavé. There was also a lack of affordable, unpretentious and cheerful dining experiences and small function venues in the winelands where all feel welcome.

“We are a family owned business with four generations living and working on the farm” says Mark. “The Colnago showroom is attached to the coffee shop. We are a showcase of Camberley-where family, food and wine are at its core”.
“Our dishes are wholesome, fresh, unpretentious and good value for money. Our burger patties are made from scratch. Our coffee is fantastic”.

Favourite breakfasts: Light and fluffy stack of nutella pancakes served with seasonal fruit (a favourite among cyclists). Favourite lunch: Tour De Fromage Beef Burger (200g homemade beef patty topped with gorgonzola, caramelised onion, bacon and avo).

Café Pavé is unpretentious, low key and located in a peaceful setting under the oaks.

They are available for private functions (small weddings, pre and post wedding functions, kitchen teas etc.)

  1. Passionately owned by a wonderful family

The most beautiful place…! Sitting in the mountains of Stellenbosch is this lovely family owned restaurant connected to a wonderful wine cellar which has some of the best wine I have ever had. Highly recommend trying the Philosophers Stone and chatting to John Nel about his wines – one of the most passionate men I have ever met.
