Bella de Karoo

Along your scenic R62 route, which has been nominated by CNN as one of the 10 best road trips for 2017, between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp, lies Bella de Karoo. It is a setting which offers a unique combination of experiences, ranging from a farm stall and restaurant, to vintage accommodation and a breathtaking eco-reserve. Housed on Andrieskraal, one of the most historic farms in the Klein Karoo, with buildings dating back to the early 1800s, the setting is unequalled in its charm and beauty.

There is also Bella’s bar and entertainment area where you can relax and enjoy yourself. From Friday after-work drinks, to a friendly get-together, to watching sport with a couple of friends, there is no better place to unwind in good company! They are also equipped to host conferences and functions and weddings.

Bella de Karoo is very fortunate to have an eco-reserve on its doorstep, with a lovely mountain cottage perched on a hill, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the surroundings. Here, a wealth of flora and fauna awaits the nature lover, with some flora as old as 1000 years!

Keeping an eye out, you may find wild animals roaming the landscape, ranging from a herd of kudu to foxes, caracals, meerkats and tortoises. Even leopards occasionally cross the reserve at night. When dusk sets in, the cries of the animals, echoing in the distance, are a poignant reminder that you are in the midst of unspoiled nature.

To help you explore the eco-reserve, there are specially marked hiking and cycling trails laid out, with directions and distances indicated. Refreshments may also be pre-ordered and delivered to the mountain lodge for breaks along your hike or cycle. Trails can also be accessed by 4×4 vehicles, off-road bikes and quads for those seeking an extra thrill. No adventure is too big or too small for our eco-reserve!
