CYCLELINKS 0,3 GUGULETHU… THE MOVEMENT GROWS

Our urban cycling campaign, Bicycle Cape Town was proud to host last Saturday’s, CycleLINKS 0.3 in Gugulethu.  An energetic crowd of cyclists, young and old, took to the streets to travel en masse from varying communities.  Over 60 cyclists from Imfundo, Lavender Hill, Manenberg, and Gugulethu cycling clubs joined the procession.

Meeting at Athlone Stadium, we carried onward to Pisto’s for a spin around the neighborhood, a braai, and a discussion of building cycling culture in and throughout Cape Town. Speakers included Sipho Nhlapo, of Velokhaya, Monde and Charles, from Gugulethu Cycling Club, Andrew Wheeldon, from Bicycling Empowerment Network and Shaun Borotha & Nomfundo Ndobontwana, of the Department of Transport.  Youth in attendance shared how participation in a cycling club positively influenced their lives.

Many thanks to all who organized and participated in this interactive event to raise awareness of the need for safe and shared road use for all.  With the sun shining and temperatures warming, cycling was the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful day.  As we explore new neighborhoods & communities to cycle through, as the discussion continues and camaraderie builds… Long may we all ride.
