Union House Guest Farm
Union House, found in Fouriesburg, Eastern Free State, South Africa, provides guests with the perfect getaway destination to enjoy the farm style living and the outdoors. This luxury colonial style country guest house offers an unforgettable experience with beautiful mountains, 6km’s Caledon River frontage and only 7 km’s from Calendonspoort border post that takes you into the magnificent Lesotho.
Nestling in the Bestervallei Valley, overlooking pictureque wetlands and the foothills of the Malutis on the Lesotho Border, lies historic Union House Guest Farm, originally constructed in the 1870’s. Union House was beautifully reconstructed and restored in remembrance of the Anglo Boer War. To commemorate peace between the Boer’s & British, two oak trees were planted on the front lawn to symbolize the Union between Afrikaans and English inhabitants, by President Brand of the Free State. In 1910 the Free State celebration of the Union of South Africa was held on this farm.
Union House is now a gracious Guest Estate, offering an unforgettable escape to the beautiful Eastern Free State Highlands. We invite all dual purpose, off-road, quad riders and 4×4’s to come and explore this beautiful Eastern Free-state farmstyle living and countryside. We offer an intimate Dinner Bed & Breakfast experience, in a farm style open plan kitchen & dining area with a cosy fire place.

The setting is an ideal mountain biking haven, with 40 kms of MTB cut trails, our focus is to cater for MTB enthusiasts of all levels.
Union Trails is situated in the Eastern Highlands of the Free State, a few kilometres from Fouriesburg which is near the popular village of Clarens, just 3 hours from JHB. Awesome MTB trails, accommodation & other activities to suite all your requirements.
The Union Trails are born out of years of riding in the various locations around the globe, from the Rockies to the Alps, Europe, South American and Africa, while also building on the amazing trails network that exists right on our doorstep in Lesotho. The Union Trails are a network of trails that sit on a 1200 hectare estate consisting of natural and hand crafted trails, making use of the natural terrain to provide different levels of trails to cater for all abilities.
The beautiful sandstone hills and valleys of the region make this one of the most scenic areas in South Africa and makes for some of the best riding on offer in our country, especially the unique sandstone slickrock, similar to Moab in Utah.
Only for guests staying at the farm
Like most of the farms in the Clarens and Fourieburg area these trails are only available for guests staying on the farm which is understandable due to the out of control crime rate in the country.
