Riverlea Underberg

Riverlea is a 700Ha farm, just outside the village of Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg, that caters specifically for the Multisport athlete.

SINGLE TRACK

Pristine single track that threads through the property allows the Mountain Biker or Trail Runner to ride or run from directly from their accommodation onto the course.

The Riverlea single track links directly into the neighbouring Sani Spoors MTB trails, which means guests have access to over 60km of single track. On the Sani Spoors section of the course one finds the Olde Duck, a local restaurant, where one can stop for a coffee or bite to eat or where friends/family could wait while the athletes complete their exercise. There are shower facilities at the Olde Duck, so athletes can choose to end their session there and have a meal afterwards.

TAR & GRAVEL RIDING

Riverlea is perfectly situated for tar and gravel riding. The roads in the Underberg area are relatively safe and quiet, with low traffic volumes and magnificent scenery with a variety of options from an easy 4km pedal to 100km ride into the Berg. Being a farming area there are also variety of dirt (gravel) roads to be found in the vicinity of Riverlea. Maps of the area are available and cyclists can customize their training routes during their stay.

SWIMMING & OTHER ACTIVITES

Riverlea property also includes six kilometres of the uMzimkhulu River, which gives canoeists private access onto the well-known Drak Challenge course. Swim courses on two of the farm’s dams provide safe, clean, open water training and allow for complete X-Terra sessions. Other activities include fly-fishing, walking and bird-watching or picnicking and tubing at the river or exploring the farm.

Accommodation

Accommodation on Riverlea comprises two fully-equipped self-catering cottages, each in its own private setting.

Clearbrook Cottage stands on the shore of Heskeths, a twenty five acre lake with majestic views of the Drakensberg over the water; Clearbrook offers total privacy and seclusion from the outside world. The cottage consists of four double/twin en-suite bedrooms, an attractive, comfortable lounge with fireplace and an open-plan kitchen-dining area. A hand-built wood-and-stone table stands under a huge oak tree in the garden and provides a spectacular setting for outdoor meals. Clearbrook is well-equipped and is serviced most mornings

Heronwood House is a spacious house nestled in the forest with an elevated position, offering sweeping views of the Umzimkulu valley and the surrounding Drakensberg. Heronwood sleeps ten in five en-suite bedrooms and offers the perfect social environment with its spacious lounge with fireplace and large oak countered bar area which spills through French doors onto the patio.
