Paul Cluver Wines is a family owned and family run winery, focused on producing wines that reflect the uniqueness of the cool-climate Elgin terroir. The family is proud to have pioneered the Elgin appellation and for being seen as a leader in the sustainable farming. The property is approximately 70km south-east of Cape Town and has been in ownership of the Cluver Family since 1896.
The wine business forms part of larger holistic farming business called ‘De Rust Estate’. In addition to the vineyards and cellar, there are apple and pear orchards, a Hereford stud and eco-tourism activities, including amphitheatre concerts, on the farm. There is also a restaurant located on the estate serving beautiful food, simply prepared meals made with ingredients that are seasonal, sustainable and as far as possible, locally sourced. This estate forms part of the UNESCO world heritage site, the Kogelberg Biosphere. Half of the estate has been set aside for conservation into perpetuity.
The Paul Cluver forest amphitheatre is the only venue of its kind in the Western Cape. Beautifully built into the natural landscape surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees, the intimate space provides one of the most unique experiences of a live performance you can have anywhere on earth. The amphitheatre has a maximum capacity of 600, ensuring the the entire audience has access to a golden circle ticket at general admission costs.
Mountain biking on Paul Cluver
The Paul Cluver trails start in the amphitheatre treating the rider to Raka and The Swing, one a bridge built on a massive tree trunk, the other a suspension bridge. The fun continues with lots of berms, flowing singletrack with some technical riding. Look out for the Mamba, a rollercoaster through a river valley with 6 bridges. There are some lung busting climbs rewarded with magnificent vistas over the Elgin valley. The Pofadder is a bermed bridge built from wine barrel slats at the foot of a waterfall followed by more great riding and loads of singletrack.Red : Distance 34km : Elevation Gain 740m
