Located in an untouched wilderness of the Southern Cederberg, in the Western Cape, the Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is renowned for its scenic beauty, dramatic rock formations and unique accommodation options. The reserve offers a variety of mountain bike trails where spectacular views and vast stretches of Karoo landscape can be explored, no matter what your level of experience.

This colour-rich destination is a true natural wonder. It offers a remarkable experience that combines some of the area’s best features. From mountain ranges unfolding to captivating ancient history – the San culture and the footprint of oneness with nature they left behind in their stunning rock paintings found all over the Reserve. From the strange rock formations that tease the eye with hints of familiar shapes to the endless Karoo-like wilderness that supports a diverse and fascinating array of fauna and flora.

The quietness is almost audible; something so pure and deep in the wide-angle space. The remoteness and the absence of light pollution, ensures clear night skies, which makes Kagga Kamma the perfect destination to view the billions of stars that seem almost so close you can touch them.

The rich cultural history and outstandingly beautiful landscape inspired the design of the comfortable and unique Kagga Kamma Accommodation. Sleep under the starry African night sky in an Open Air Room overlooking the Cederberg; or in a ‘Cave’ Suite skilfully constructed to integrate with the natural sandstone formations. Alternatively, choose a spacious Hut Suite, resembling the traditional dwellings inhabited by the clans of the area many years ago. The swimming pool, intimate bar area, spa and restaurant allow for ample opportunities to relax, unwind and savour the facilities that the Lodge offers. Mountain Biking, Nature Drives, Rock Art Tours, Star Gazing, Hiking and Quad Bike Safaris are just some of the doorways to a world of new experiences. Kagga Kamma is truly a nature lover’s paradise.

Mountain Biking Trails

Mountain bikers can choose between the 10km or 30km route within the Nature Reserve.

Both the 10km (Red) and the 30km (Black) start from the Main Lodge area. The circular trails start at the Reception area and wind through the bush. The route comprises mainly of a jeep track and the terrain is varied. The route winds through beautiful rock formations, with spectacular views across the dramatic mountain fynbos plains.

The 30km route can be a bit sandy in patches but is suitable for the average rider. The total ascent for this route is 300m. Riders can expect to complete the 30km route in two to three hours.

Packing a camera is a good idea as wildlife and beautiful scenery can be enjoyed along the way.
