Grootfontein Private Game Reserve
Grootfontein Private Game Reserve is located 2-3 hours from Gauteng in the beautiful Limpopo Province, near the famous malaria-free eco-tourism town of Thabazimbi, South Africa.
We are a 4th generation working family farm and welcome all lovers of the great African outdoors. We offer rustic bushlodge-style accommodation, hiking, birding, camping, 4×4 trails, kayaking, mountain biking, hunting…and keep an eye on our themed weekends – photographers, wellness fundi’s, bush cuisine – and events, esp MTB specials.
Here you will find tranquility and a pristine, untouched Bushveld landscape that is home to 120+ species of birds, 130+ species of trees and a wonderful range of animals such as Zebra, Giraffe, Kudu, Impala, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeast, Nyala, Bushbuck, Warthog, various small carnivores and Leopard.
Since the farm does not have the Big 5, you are free to explore the 1100 ha on foot or bring your own mountain bike. We are 1 hours’ drive from the famous Pilansberg and Marakele National Parks where you can see the Big 5 from your car, or we can arrange transport.
We are a carbon sensitive eco-establishment. Grootfontein is a half hour drive on a dirt road from the main road so it is off-the-grid living. You will enjoy hot showers powered by gas, gas fridges and solar powered lights.
The reserve has 2 rustic bush lodges and 1 camp site all unique from each other and is perfect for short or long stays. We can accommodate up to 20 guests (camping included!).
