Glen Avon Farm is set nearby the historic little town of Somerset East in South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape, lies at the foot of Boschberg Mountain and provides a perfect environment for a farm holiday.

Being close to both Somerset East and the R63 it is very accessible. Stately mountains, lush valleys, forests, rock formations, streams and delightful vistas make an exhilarating environment for a farm holiday for those who love nature and what it has to offer. Birding is excellent and hiking opportunities of all degrees abound. Lovers of flora and fauna will find plenty to interest them while those who like animals will enjoy our farm life. The main farmhouse accommodation comprises two guest bedrooms sleeping four. Hart Cottage is a garden cottage that is an original 1817 thatched wattle and daub dwelling. It is set in a garden amongst oak trees and white stinkwoods, and gives a spectacular view of Avon Head across the pastures. Pecan Cottage is a cosy cottage that is set amongst large pecan trees and lush rolling pastures. The restaurant offers home cooked meals in a country setting including lamb farmed organically on the Glen Avon Farm.

For those who like to get back to basics, there is a variety of farming activities in which guests can participate if they would like to.

There is hand milking every morning and if you’re feeling energetic you can join the morning rounds which include changing sprinklers, and checking on the small stock in the pastures. There is also a good chance that your visit will coincide with either lambing, kidding or shearing of sheep or goats.

MTB exist for the more adventurous cyclists who can handle endurance trails/longer rides. Glen Avon is also a haven for the avid birder with over 800 bird species spotted on the farm!!
