FCC aims to get more bums on bikes; develop trails in the valley; develop young riders; have regular social events; and attend cycle events as a club.
Trails around the Franschhoek Valley
The FCC has mapped out the Matoppie MTB trail. This is the perfect 90 minute trail for intermediate to advanced riders. The terrain is somewhat technical, with rocky and sandy forest roads, taking you up to unbeatable views that only mountain bikers get to enjoy.
Another MTB favourite is Zachariashoek, which is part of the Limietberg Nature Reserve.
Still on mountain bikes, a lovely route for beginners is the Robertsvlei loop around Dassenberg. Comprising of just under 5km of gravel road, this is perfect for anyone who wants the scenery without the technical challenges of mountain biking.
A firm favourite of locals, is the majestic Franschhoek Pass. Whether you only do the somewhat demanding climb up to the top of Mont Rochelle 7km away, or cycle down the other side and back to double the distance, or go all the way to the T-junction at Theewaterskloof Dam and back (about 50km round trip), it is bound to be magnificent.
We always have a fun evening after our locally organised cycle events to recap, pat each other on the back, and just laugh, eat and chill together afterwards.
Details will be sent out via our mailing list and updated on our facebook page.
