Fat Tracks
Fat Tracks was the first Mountain Bicycle Club in South Africa. Established in 1989, the club has consistently led the growth of Mountain Biking in South Africa. As a club we recognize the importance of catering for all mountain biking enthusiasts irrespective of level of fitness or skill. The club organizes racing and social events for club and visiting members. We encourage outdoors people to join up with Fat Tracks and we work towards developing trails and off the road tracks where it is safe to ride.
Amongst other things, the Fat Tracks Mountain Bike Club has the following activities:
- Racing : We organize races catering for both novice and experienced riders.
- Outrides : We have regular outrides. Outrides are a social type of event which is really just about getting out and riding mountain bikes whilst encouraging new entrants to the sport.
THE FATTRACK TRAIL NETWORK
The Baakens Valley is filled with many mountain bike trails. It stretches through most of PE and boasts many great routes. The best place to start is from Cyclo Pro, as many of the routes start from here, and there is sufficient parking. The section behind our shop is the most safe to ride as there as many walkers and cyclists using this area. The marked Conti route starts from our parking area at the containers.
The Conti Loop is a great intermediate trail and forms the heart of the club’s trails in the valley. Watch out for Killer Downhill and ride within your abilities. Why not link in Mangold Traverse to extend the trail to 3rd Ave, or link in WGC traverse to head out to Settlers park. This is the best of the Baakens… enjoy!
PEGC is a great beginner and family track around the PE Golf Course. If you are a beginner on your first day, a family with small kids or a pro chasing a Strava segment this is the trail for you! Watch out for the bottom technical section and ride around via the tar road until you feel confident enough to tackle it.
For more detailed info on our trails, can be found on our website.
