Deer Park Cafe
Situated on the upper slopes of Vredehoek overlooking the city, this city bowl eatery is great for all ages. The décor is natural and stylish yet funky – outside and inside seating is available with big bay windows overlooking The Rocklands Rd Park. Table Mountain is the back drop with Deer Park being the popular gateway into the reserve, with access to the Table Mountain MTB Trails.
Breakfast is a straight up affair with everything from a home-made bran muffin, the best egg benedict right up to a traditional breakfast. Perfect for a morning breakfast meeting (free wi- fi and tables big enough for a laptop and your food) or for a relaxed weekend family brunch. The bacon and eggs are free range with the bacon being a thicker cut, no fat delicacy (you will never look at bacon the same way again).
The lunch menu changes seasonally, whilst the daily blackboard menu features new and exciting dishes as well as local favourites. All chicken and meat is sourced from free-range farms, with the chicken and cashew nut salad being a firm favourite with locals. The burgers are done in true home-made fashion served on ciabatta rolls with delicious toppings and hand cut potato wedges. The cakes are amazing and the slices generous– from dense carrot and pecan nut cake with lemon creamcheese frosting, to a zesty lemon meringue and the most fabulous dark Chocolate Cake soaked in brandy syrup and covered in chocolate caramel ganache!
The restaurant borders on The Rocklands Rd Park, a well maintained fenced public park with swings, jungle gyms and plenty of grass. Great for the children to run around in, while the parents enjoy a well-deserved coffee or glass of wine, in the restaurant or picnic style in the park.
The restaurant books up quickly on the weekends – so best to phone and book your table. Inside seating is perfect protection from the Vredehoek wind and toasty in winter with the fireplace.
