Curiocity Backpackers (Johannesburg)

African Design Hostels

Developed for curious urbanites from all over the world looking to explore Johannesburg’s hidden treasures, Curiocity Backpackers invites you to experience an undiscovered world in the heart of one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburbs.

Situated in the vibrant cultural neighbourhood of Maboneng, Curiocity not only offers you a guided experience through Johannesburg’s inner city, but also offers the opportunity to experience Johannesburg like a local with direct access to the people and happenings of the community.

The premises at 302 Fox Street was originally the premises of Pacific Press, whose owners printed the publications for The Black Sash Movement as well at the ANC’s Fighting Talk publication during the apartheid regime at their own risk.

It is rumored that Nelson Mandela, Joe Slovo and Tokyo Sexwale took refuge in the building on several occasions.

We offer bike rentals and bike tours from our venue that take you through Jeppestown, Maboneng, Doornfontein and Troyeville, exploring public arts, urban living, fascinating history and amazing architecture.
