Boschkloof Guest Farm & MTB Trail
Charming and stylish, the self-catering cottages are set on a beautiful mountain farm in the heart of the Sneeuberg Conservancy, directly adjacent to the Cederberg Wilderness Area. Boschkloof is situated less than two hours drive from Cape Town, 7 km from Citrusdal in the Olifants River Valley.
Owners Doempie & Mariet Smit will welcome you with true country hospitality and introduce you to the natural splendour surrounding you, as well as their fascinating farming activities. Lush citrus orchards tucked in mountain kloofs, rooibos tea lands and amazing mountain scenery all form part of the experience.
Explore the San rock paintings, hike along mountain trails, cool off in the sparkling swimming pool or a refreshing mountain stream, enjoy the prolific bird life . . or simply relax and enjoy the magnificent views!
Sightings of baboons, dassies (rock rabbits), otters, small deer and Black Eagles are not uncommon, with the protected Cape Leopard being more elusive.
From August to October carpets of wild flowers and rare indigenous species flower, transforming the area into a spectacle of colour. It is also the time when orange blossoms fill the valleys with the intoxicating scent of neroli. The rare Snow Protea flowers during the coldest winter months and it is worth making the effort to see this endemic masterpiece of nature.
There are many walking and mountain bike trails on the farm, ranging from leisurly strolls along farm tracks to more challenging routes into the mountains. One of the walks lead to the historic ‘blokhuis’ (block house), a relic from the Anglo Boer War. You can also spend a lazy afternoon relaxing at the picnic place under the old pear trees.
THE BOSCHKLOOF MTB TRAIL
The 26km Boschkloof MTB trail is suitable for riders of all levels yet presents a good challenge for the more experienced riders. Permits are required and are obtainable from the Citrusdal Tourism Office. The route can be started at Boschkloof Farm, or at the Citrusdal Touris, whee you can also find maps.
The route can be ridden in any direction and will take you on a mix of gravel, single track through pristine fynbos and fragrant citrus orchards and tar. With steep climbs and descents that will test your bike skills.
