Ama Rider
more trails to riders – more riders to trails
Amarider is a South African registered Section 21, nonprofit company with the aim of improving mountain bicycling opportunities on the African continent. Amarider is affiliated to the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), generally accepted as the worldwide leader of trail related issues and advocacy.
What do we do?
Amarider provides guidelines and standards for the construction, maintenance, development and management of mountain bike trails throughout the region, assisting local volunteer groups and private operators to develop and promote their own trail systems.
Since formation , Amarider has operated as far north as Ghana whilst the growth of the organisation’s premier youth development initiative, the Spur School’s League, has seen activity in Namibia and Lesotho. Some might ask what a trail advocacy group is doing supporting and promoting youth racing. One only has to look at the importance of issues like health, kids on bikes and the political weight that schools carry within their respective communities, for it to make perfect sense. If an initiative further underpins the sport and recreation objectives of local and national government, all the pieces of the puzzle starts falling into place.
Amarider is also instrumental in the creation of various trail parks around Southern Africa.
Amarider operates a full-time office from Delvera Farm outside Stellenbosch, and employs a director and membership secretary to manage its activities.
