Open Streets Main Road
25th February 2018 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
FreeJoin us for a sequel car-free corridor along the M4 (Main Road) in Observatory, Salt River, Woodstock, District Six and City Centre.
Building on the successful Open Streets Main Road on 1 October 2017, a second Open Streets Day is planned along the same route on Sunday 25 February 2018. We aim to take feedback and lessons learned the first time around, to further test the feasibility of a regular network of longer road closures in Cape Town.
Take up the #AtoBChallenge and Cycle to Open Streets. Participants stand a chance to win a bicycle!
Join the ride on Facebook and/or see full details of the route and competition here.

WHAT IS OPEN STREETS?
Open Streets Main Road builds on a local programme inspired by Colombia’s Ciclovía. The concept is to close down a street temporarily so that it becomes car-free. It’s a chance for people to reclaim streets as public space, for walking, cycling, skating, playing, exploring and general socialising. Open Streets suspends reality and allows us to imagine a new “normal” for our streets. Watch a short video here: https://youtu.be/
WHO ORGANISES IT?
Open Streets Cape Town, a citizen-driven NPO, in partnership with the City of Cape Town’s Transport and Urban Development Authority, with the financial support of the WWF Nedbank Green Trust, Millennium Trust and Woolworths, as well as the help of many volunteers, residents and friends!
WHY?
To create shared spaces that can help bridge social and spatial divides in Cape Town, and encourage people to think differently about how we move around the city.
