This year Southern Campout takes place on the Equinox (Saturday the 21st September). With the arrival of the spring, now is the perfect time to pack your camping gear on your bike and join cyclists from across the Southern Hemisphere for an overnight bike camping adventure.
JOIN A CAMPOUT
Create or join a local bike-campout on 21st September 2019. Register here to join our community and add your campout to the map (whether its a solo mission or group ride). Invite your friends to join in the fun and stay tuned for our campout giveaway competitions for registered campers.
Explore the map to find local bike-campouts near you (red markers show community campouts hosted by Bicycle South and partners, blue markers are other group events that you can join). The map will be updated weekly so keep checking back to see what’s new. Follow this link to book your spot at the Cape Town event.

GEAR & TIPS
For those new to bike camping the following links will help to get you geared up and ready to roll. Plus – our event partner Scuttle is offering a 30% discount on camping gear & bike bag rentals for the weekend to registered campers!
Bike camping is all about getting back to basics, with self sufficiency and autonomy being key. You will use your bike, or a combination of cycling and public transport (train, bus or ferry) to reach your intended camping spot. While you need to carry your food and camping gear etc with you, you can make some pitstops along the way to refuel or pick up supplies. The great thing about an overnight campout is that you don’t need a lot of gear or to travel too far – simplicity is key and sometimes the best adventures can be found right on your doorstep!
Meet our rad partners who share our passion for adventure and building community – from independent gear makers and bike builders to businesses in the cycle tourism and outdoor industry. We would like to thank them for making Southern Campout extra special, with prizes and rewards for registered campers or by y sharing the stoke in their communities. Contact us to find out about opportunities to partner or collaborate with us.
