Women on Bikes
18th August 2018 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

To celebrate #WomenOnBikes this Women’s Month, join Open Streets and partners from Bicycling Empowerment Network, Pedal Power Association, Bicycle South and TSiBA Education for a day of raising awareness and dialogue about women and bicycles. Together we will:
- Share stories
- Meet other women who cycle
- Hear from inspiring speakers
- Learn basic bicycle maintenance and road safety
- Cycle together on a short ride
According to World Bicycle Relief, “access to bikes can allow women and girls in Africa better access to education, healthcare, and employment. Women can also experience an increase in safety when traveling in comparison to walking”.
Furthermore, ”there is a clear need for women to have access to bicycles but issues of safety, street harassment and poor infrastructure can still limit bike transportation for women.”
On 18 August we aim to highlight these challenges by bringing together women cyclists, instructors, bike shop owners, and activists for one day to help educate and encourage a more conducive environment for women to cycle in the city.
